Landsat Annual Timelapse 1984-2012 | Deforestation In The Amazon Rainforest
Explore this interactive timelapse of the Amazon Rainforest, constructed from Landsat satellite imagery. The Amazon Rainforest is shrinking at a rapid rate to provide land for farming and raising cattle. Each frame of the timelapse map is constructed from a year of Landsat satellite data, constituting an annual 1.7-terapixel snapshot of the Earth at 30-meter resolution. The Landsat program, managed by the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) has been acquiring images of the Earth's surface since 1972. Landsat provides critical scientific information about our changing planet.

"I'm Alive": A Song For Brazil's Rainforests
Inspired to protect the rainforests of their native Brazil from further destruction, world-renowned artists Caetano Veloso and Lenine, Criolo, Emicida and Pretinho da Serrinha—along with many other celebrated Brazilian musicians—came together in Rio de Janeiro’s Floresta da Tijuca to create a music film and original composition.
The project supports the Rainforest Alliance, which works in partnership with Brazilian nonprofit Imaflora—as well as farmers, forest communities and cattle ranchers—to protect Brazil’s magnificent and ecologically fragile natural heritage.
